Born and raised on Arnold Street in Methuen, Steve has always taken pride in where is has come from. A graduate of Central Catholic, Steve then went on to attain his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Master of Education Degree from Endicott College. Serving as a graduate assistant under Dr. Wylie, Steve developed a passion for recreation and facility management and turned that passion into his dream job in which he gives back to the community every single day.
Steve currently serves as the Director of Recreation for the Town of Stoneham. During his tenure as the head of the recreation department, Steve has been responsible for the creation and implementation of recreational opportunities for community members of all ages and abilities. As a Certified Playground Safety Inspector through the National Recreation and Park Association, Steve also has direct oversight of athletic fields, facilities and playgrounds, including budgeting and maintenance plans. Among the new community engagement programs which have been offered to the community since Steve took the helm and developed the department are the Town Common Egg Hunt, Movies on the Common, Community Tree Lighting/ Train Rides, Pop-Up Stoneham, Ultimate Frisbee High School Tournament, Teen Video Game Expo, Halloween Downtown Stroll and hundreds of additional recreational programs and events.
Prior to his work for the Town of Stoneham, Steve worked in higher education in several different roles. Throughout his 8 years in college athletics, Steve was responsible for recreational programs, athletic facilities maintenance, fitness center management, athletic operations, departmental budgeting. He also served in several leadership roles on a variety of campuses including senior administrator, liaison to the President and Staff Council president for several years.
In his free time, Steve loves watching Boston sports teams with his family and friends and He is also the founder of the Joseph Ronan Memorial Fund, a 501 (c) (3) charity organization which has raised close to $100,000 for collegiate scholarships for high school students over the past 8 years.
